Piero Fornasetti, an Italian artist, made the face of Lina Cavalieri a well known face in the fashion, craft, and art world, using it on most of his work. While it looks like it's a stamped image, it's actually a drawing of the famous opera singer, that Fornasetti recreated obsessively, using dots to make up most of the face. It was a face I first noticed when looking through mixed media art magazines when the whole world of mixed media and stamping seemed so new to many of us. Although I love the face, this is actually my first time using it for inspiration, along with a few of his other images.
For this exercise, feel free to work in your journal. Print out as many Fornasetti images as you would like and use them to create a collage. Use this collage as your foundation for a painting.
